1993 Game Replay (July 1, New York Mets at Florida Marlins)

Here is another replay game that I randomly picked to play,  so let's set the ground work.  For this game, we will replay the 1993 regular season game between the New York Mets and the Florida Marlins.  Both teams struggled for the season and ended up on the bottom of the NL East Standings.  The Mets had retooled and looked like that had some talent, but they never pulled it together and had some injuries all year long.  Jeff Torborg started as the manager but by the time this game was played, the Mets had made a change and brought in Dallas Green.  For the expansion Marlins, many of the players it drafted were unproven but went on to be pretty good.  But like most expansion teams, it just wasn't enough.  Somehow, they managed to be better than the last place Mets.  In the real game, the Marlins beat the Mets 7-5.  To replay the game, I thought it would be fun to use the 1968 Topps Game Baseball Cards.  Each batter draws a card and we will play out the results and see how far complete random drawing of cards falls from the real outcome.  According to the Topps Game rules, after each inning, I will reshuffle the cards and play will continue.  So without further ado, "Let's Play Ball!"

3 OUTS

Like a true ace, even when Gooden gives up a run, he comes back strong and strikes out three.  In the real game, he also struck out two this inning including Santiago and Hough.  It amazes me that it is pretty close to what actually happens.

Well we finally had an inning that was different than the real life inning.  In our game, Charlie Hough continues to cruise along with three more outs.  In the real game, the Mets get on board with a home run.

So not similar in this half inning also except that Sheffield got a hit.  Pretty tight game right now.  After three innings in the real game, the score was 4-1 Marlins. The great thing about a series replay is that I can play it at my own pace.  I'll stop it here and will start up in the 4th inning in the next few days.  I hope you are enjoying the replay, the cards, and the baseball memories.  Please feel free to let me know how I can improve this.
