I've been wanting to try this for a while so let's set the ground work. For this series, we will replay the 1968 World Series between the Detroit Tigers and the St. Louis Cardinals. It was a great series that the Tigers came back and won after being down 3 games to 1. To replay the series, I thought it would be fun to use the 1968 Topps Game Baseball Cards. Each batter draws a card and we will play out the results and see how far complete random drawing of cards falls from the real outcome. According to the Topps Game rules, after each inning, I will reshuffle the cards and play will continue. So without further ado, "Let's Play Ball!"

First off, what are the chances that Al Kaline draws Al Kaline? The Tigers make some contact against Bob Gibson, but can't reach base.

Lou Brock comes out swinging and the Cardinals get on the board first. Funny coincidence is that Lou Brock also had a solo home run in the real game, although it was off Pat Dobson in relief as opposed to Denny McLain. I will reshuffle the cards.

The Tigers finally break through on Bob Gibson, but can't produce a two out hit as Gibson strikes out Bill Freehan. Interestingly, Freehan struck out twice against Gibson in the real game.

So Denny McClain is able to stop the Cards in the bottom half of the inning, striking out one batter. The great thing about a series replay is that I can play it at my own pace. I'll stop it here and will start up in the 3rd inning in the next few days. I hope you are enjoying the replay, cards and baseball memories.
